Privacy
What we collect, and what we don’t
GroundCurrent is run by one person. This page says exactly what the site collects, who else sees it, and how to have it deleted. It was checked against the site’s own code on September 28, 2026, and it changes before the site does.
The short version
- No accounts, no advertising, no tracking cookies and no analytics. We do not count or follow visitors.
- We keep only what you type into a form and send us.
- We never sell it or share it, and we never publish your name or email address.
When you visit
The site sets no cookies. The only thing it saves in your browser is whether you chose the light or dark theme, and that stays on your device.
Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web host it handles every request, so it sees your internet address, the page you asked for and your browser, and it keeps short technical logs for a few days that we use only to find and fix errors. Cloudflare’s privacy policy covers what it does.
Maps are drawn from images supplied by OpenFreeMap. When you look at a map, your browser asks OpenFreeMap for the pieces it needs, and OpenFreeMap sees your internet address.
Posts from X appear as our own copy of the words. X’s version loads only if you press “Load this post from X”, which lets X see your device and browsing data.
When you search for a place, the search is used to answer you and is not saved, apart from the short technical logs above. Everything else, including the video and the fonts, comes from this site itself.
When you send us something
A tip
What you write, where it is happening, and any link you add. Your name and email are optional. We read tips to look for data center projects we have not found yet. Your name and email address are never published, and they never reach the tools we use to research tips: those see only the words and the link.
A local watch
Your email address and what you asked to watch: a project, a county, or a place and a distance. Alert emails are not being sent yet. When they are, you will be emailed only after you confirm your address by clicking a link we send you, and every alert will include a link to stop them.
The community briefing
Your email address. The briefing has not started, so nothing has been sent.
All three are kept in a database run by Supabase, locked so that the public can add to it but never read from it. No email service has your address, because we do not send email yet.
To stop automated spam, the site counts form submissions from each internet address for ten minutes. That count lives only in the server’s memory and is never written down.
Supporting GroundCurrent
Payments go through Stripe, on Stripe’s own page, and we never see your card number. Stripe shows us the amount, your email address, the name on your card, and the card’s brand and last four digits. If you choose monthly support, Stripe keeps your card on file to charge it each month, and the “Manage or cancel” link on the support page stops it. Stripe’s privacy policy covers the rest.
What we will never do
- Sell, rent or trade anything you send us.
- Publish your name or email address.
- Add advertising, tracking or analytics without changing this page first.
Deleting what you sent
GroundCurrent does not have an email address yet, so use the tip form. Under “Where is this happening?” write Privacy, and under “What have you seen or heard?” give the email address you used and what you want deleted. We delete it from our database and keep no copy. A request written this way never enters our tip research.
Children
The site is for the general public and is not aimed at children. If you are under 13, please do not send us your email address.
